As the Viceroy, you are tasked by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and unearth hidden riches for the Smoldering City, the last refuge against the Blightstorm that devastated the old world. In "Against the Storm," unlike typical city builders, you construct a sprawling network of settlements inhabited by a variety of fantasy races, each with unique skills and requirements. The wilderness presents numerous hidden dangers, and relentless storms challenge your populace. If your settlements collapse, the journey ends but not your progress. As a roguelite city builder, you retain resources, upgrades, and experience from past expeditions for new ventures into the wild.

Foxes, beavers, lizards, humans, and harpies band together to withstand adversity. Harness each race's strengths while addressing their diverse needs, from shelter and cuisine to luxury and leisure. Decide whether to keep morale high by producing raincoats and ale or prioritize specific species to accelerate your mission for the Scorched Queen.

Experience classic city-building enhanced by roguelite elements. Develop multiple settlements across vast regions, collecting meta-progression resources crucial for enhancing the Smoldering City. Meet the queen's demands as recurring Blightstorms pose ongoing threats. Adapt to varying conditions and strategize with an array of building options and perks. Against the Storm is easily my favorite city builder to reach its full release this year. It manages to escape from the sometimes dull lack of progression felt in some other builders, while also providing a lot of depth to sink your teeth into. Because of that, it lives for far longer than most games in the genre can claim. Eremite Games has really built something special here. A very nearly perfect storm.
