"THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2: Remake" revisits the beloved rail-shooter series, revamping the second installment. Players can step into the shoes of secret agents James or Gary, either solo or in cooperative mode, to eliminate the perilous undead threats.
In February 2000, a small town is suddenly flooded with hostile creatures. AMS agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart are dispatched to unravel the mystery. Upon their arrival, the eerie situation mirrors the Curien Mansion incident of 1998. To get to the bottom of the chaos, they blast through hordes of monsters.
The remake features remastered music, including the original soundtrack, and modern graphics while preserving the gameplay's core elements. It offers cooperative play, multiple endings, and various branching paths.
Classic Campaign: Roughly two years post the original events, agents James and Gary are sent to probe a town beset by the undead.
Boss Mode: Race against time to defeat the game's challenging bosses.
Training Mode: Hone your skills in diverse training scenarios to prepare for missions.

Ultimately, I am glad The House of the Dead 2: Remake exists. Control woes aside, I suspect many players will eventually find some enjoyment from the game, provided you're willing to spend considerable time in the settings menu beforehand. It's a fascinating blast from the past, warts 'n' all, and a real showcase of some truly terrible voice acting from the '90s. Just make sure you toggle the 'Mute "Reload!" Scream' option – good lord.

It hurts to say this, but The House of the Dead 2 Remake is not the amazing return that I, and so many other fans, had been hoping for. There is definitely fun to be had here, and I would not call it a bad game by any means. It does its job as a remake of HOTD2, but it falls way short of being a great one.
