In the ninth game from the legendary Final Fantasy series the player takes on the role of Zidane Tribal, a thief from the theater group Tantalus Theater Troupe. During a performance in the kingdom of Alexandria he has to kidnap Princess Garnet. You complete your mission surprisingly very easily, however Garnet also has her own plans. The combat system is the same as in the previous installments of the game. The Trance system is a novelty and it replaces the limit breaks. With it, special attacks will be made available for a limited period of time. Abilities and spells will be received from various things and once learnt, they can be used freely by the character. Of course there are also new mini games including the card game Tetra Master.
