You embody a Living Spark, existing within delicate wooden vessels that easily shatter, burn, or fall apart. When one of these vessels fails, the Spark escapes, making death a mere change in setting. Descend with your team via a cursed elevator into ever-shifting underground ruins. Smash furniture for resources or convert them into gold through the Grinder. If everyone’s vessels break, all loot is lost. Mischief can become a game—dropkick foes or "accidentally" eject a teammate’s Spark from their vessel. Trap allies in monster-infested corridors or get caught in the chaos. Can your group navigate the turmoil you've instigated? The deeper you venture, the more severe the Rot becomes—bodies twist, voices warp, and emotes grow... unpredictable.
In the Deep Layers, corrupted vessels react wildly to sound and movement. Engage in combat, build, run, and perhaps panic. If your vessel fails, remain as a Spark to aid your team in the darkness and seek another host with new abilities before fading away.
Whatever you bring back enhances your Outpost. Unlock interactive furniture, stat boosts, rescued survivors, and eccentric survival methods for future expeditions. Strengthen the Outpost to delve deeper into the abyss. Venture further, extract more, and make it back together, or risk being lost forever.

Overall, Grain Rot was a good, fun, yet scary extraction shooter; I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. The light humour above ground, the dark, corrupted underground, and elements of base building, survival, and inventory management had me hooked. Grain Rot is also multiplayer, which I unfortunately didn’t get to test, but I think it would be a lot of fun. This is definitely a title you want to pick up if you are on the fence or if the extraction shooter is your genre.
